Course Overview
Exciting new Opportunity. This level 2 Diploma provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to begin your career with the Outdoor Education sector. Employment could be sought within a range of different outdoor centres and employment within a specialist centre. You will study a range of units to gain a greater knowledge and depth within the outdoor sector including outdoor and adventurous activities, leading an outdoor activity session and expedition experience.
Work Experience & Industry Placements
During the course you will have the opportunity to undertake work experience in a outdoor activity centre.
Qualification Gained
NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Sport (Outdoor).
After The Course
After this course students will could progress to undertake level 3 Apprenticeships with the outdoor sector, Join an outdoor education specific instructor training program or progression onto a level 3 programme
What Will I Learn
Students will have the opportunity to gain several industry recognised
qualifications including Level 2 Assistant Lowland Leaders qualification,
Kayaking introduction award and Nicas climbing award level 1 alongside their
academic studies. Strong links have been formed within outdoor Education
providers such as Mendip Activity Centre, Dorset Ski Centre, and Sutton Bingham
Paddlesports Club.
There will be additional opportunities to take part in.
Within your course you will have the opportunity to attend trips and visit
these include Exeter Quay climbing centre, Sutton Bingham Paddlesports Club and
a 3-day Expedition (Location may vary however we have previously expeditions
have included Dartmoor, New Forest and Exmoor National Park). There are also
additional opportunities taking place every Wednesday afternoon which may incur
additional cost.
English And Maths
English and Maths GCSE resit and Functional Skills can be taken alongside of this qualification for those that have not achieved grade 4 or above in English and or Maths.
Our Lecturers
Our lecturers are highly qualified and passionate industry experts bringing with them a wealth of knowledge within the outdoor sector including coaching and teaching overseas including dog sledding in Canada and Cave guiding in New Zealand.
Teaching Learning and Assessment
The qualification is assessed through a range of assignments and practical tasks. A mix of classroom based activity and outdoor pursuits help learners understand the requirements to be successful on this level 2 qualification.
Tutorials
Your timetable will include academic tutorials and group tutorials where you will explore wider topics such as healthy living, how to stay safe online and with the support of your tutor understand your progress and success.
Course Expenses
£187.00 for additional qualifications and enrichment opportunities.
Compulsory sport kit to be ordered in advance of September 2025.
Please note that optional trips and visits may incur additional
fees.
How Will I Be Assessed
All units are internally assessed.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSE's at grade 3 and above, including English and Maths. If you fail to meet these entry requirements we recommend Sport Foundation Year (Level 1).
Required Experience
No experience required but applicants should have an interest in outdoor and physical activity.
