Engineering Technician (Tool Technician) - Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship (Starting between August 2025 and July 2026)

Toolmakers and Tool & Die Maintenance Technicians are predominantly involved in the highly skilled, complex and specialist detailed work of manufacturing and maintaining the engineering tooling used to produce components, products and assemblies. These products, assemblies and systems affect all of our daily lives, whether it be for travel such as (cars, planes, boats and rail) energy, defence, food, clothing, packaging and health including medical equipment, devices and implants such as joint replacements. This requires the application of a broad range of activities including the interpretation of Engineering drawings and technical instructions and the use of hand, machine and automated computer controlled machine tools and measuring equipment. This requires the application of a broad range of skills, knowledge and occupational behaviours across a range of engineering disciplines.

Machining including: Milling, turning, CNC and Grinding Business Improvement Techniques Health and Safety CAD Hand Fitting Maths and Science

Where required you will be expected to achievea English and maths qualifications at level 2.

Our lecturers are passionate about engineering. Having all worked as engineers we strive to develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours enabling you to succeed in the world of engineering.

You will be taught using a range of practical and theoretical methods. Assessment will take place in the form of formatice/summative assessments, and reviews held with your assessor on a regular basis.

Learners are requried to demonstrate all evidence requirements, learning outcomes and assessment criteria through the production of an evidence based portfolio via; assessor observations, job write ups and professional discussions. Evidence will be naturally occurring examples across a range of units selected to allow the learner to demonstrate their competency in completing their regular work based activities.

Individual employers will set the recruitment and selection criteria for their Apprenticeships. In order to optimise success, candidates will typically have 4 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or equivalent, including Mathematics, English and a Science
