Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector - Level 1 (September 2025 Start)

The VTCT Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills through introducing you to the hair and beauty industries and how you should present a professional image in the salon. Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge and understanding of each unit. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in both hair and beauty and will provide you with the foundation for further learning. It will also enable you to perform your own services and to assist others in the salon.

35 hours Work Experience is required alongside this qualification in a Hair or Beauty salon. The placement will need to be secured and confirmed by October half term.

• Shampoo and conditioning
• Skin care
• Providing basic manicure treatment
• The art of dressing hair
• Basic make-up application
• Nail art application
• Plaiting and twisting hair
• Create an image using colour for the hair and beauty sector
• Style hair using hairdressing techniques

You will be required to attend English and Maths alongside this qualification.

You will be taught by our highly trained industry professionals.

You will be taught in a realistic salon environment and be assessed on all skills you develop through observation, online exams, and assignments. You will be required to bring in clients to assessed on.

You will have regular tutorials to ensure you progress well on your programme.

You will be required to purchase Kit and uniform and have the opportunity to pay for educational visits.

You will be assessed in the practical environment and will also be required to complete assignments and tests.

Good communication skills and personal presentation. A keen interest in both Hair and Beauty Industries. You will be required to take part in a practical skills scan that will help us to determine your starting point.
